Bug Description

I am having a problem with Linux Mint 18 MATE 32-bit. When I log back in after suspend, wireless does not restart correctly. But rather, the Ethernet icon appears in the panel. When the Ethernet icon appears in the panel, I have wireless service but NO wireless networks are shown and wireless is grayed out. The only way to restore the wireless service to show the correct icon and other available wireless networks is to either log out and log back in or reboot the laptop. This is rather disturbing considering that this is the very first time I've had a networking problem going all the way back to Linux Mint 11 and also all the way back to Ubuntu 5.10. This seems to be a consistent problem. I have been using Lenovo Thinkpads for years with no networking issues until Linux Mint 18. Linux Mint 17.X ran flawlessly. The problem may/may not be in the Ubuntu 16.04 code base because I've also had various problems with Ubuntu MATE 16.04. Thank you.

Getting similar problem Linux Mint Mate 18 64-bit - After a suspend the icon changes from wireless to ethernet and the display when clicked shows the ethernet display not the wireless display.

Have to detach network and reattach using the "Enable Wifi" option.

Having exactly the same issue in two computers since Linux Mint 18... I've partially solved the issue using the following command,

sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager restart

But it's not optimal since I have to do it every time I put my computer in suspension.

I went back to Mint 17.3 on all 4 of my laptops. Mint has gone down
the drain starting with 18.0. Too much overhead and way too many
bugs compared to earlier versions. I may switch to another distro in
the future.
