Bug Description
Some Ubuntu users want to install and use GNOME FlashBack/Classic sessions on normal Ubuntu installation.
I suggest to add the following testcase for them:
1. Install gnome-panel package with 'sudo apt-get install gnome-panel -y'
1.1. After installation logout from your current session.
1.2. Select 'GNOME FlashBack (Compiz)' or 'GNOME FlashBack (Metacity)' session on login window and click 'login'.
2. Perform some manual tests
2.1. Open at least two applications and check that pressing "<Alt+Tab>" produces 'Application Switcher window' (see bug 971051).
2.2. Press "<Alt+F1>" or "<Win+s>" to open Applications menu (if menu does not open comment on bug 1448507).
2.3. Press "<Alt+F2>" to open "Run Application" window, enter 'gedit' and click 'Run'. Gedit text editor will show its window.
2.4. Try to change active workspace by mouse scrolling on 'Workspace Switcher' applet in Metacity session (if it does not work see bug 958392 or report new bug) and with keyboard in Compiz session (<Ctrl+Alt+Left> or <Ctrl+Alt+Right>).
2.5. Try to add and remove applet to gnome-panel:
2.5.1. Try to add applet to bottom panel (press <Alt> or <Alt+Super> and do right click on its empty space, select 'Add to Panel', 'Add to Panel' window appears, choose 'System Monitor' and click 'Add', its applet should appear on gnome-panel)
2.5.2. Try to remove recently added applet from bottom panel (click <Alt> or <Alt+Super> and do right click on applet and select 'Remove from Panel').
2.6. Add two keyboard layouts to system with 'unity-
2.6.1. If you set <Ctrl+Shift> for keyboard layout switching - open text editor (Applications-
2.6.2. If you set <Alt+Shift> open text editor and check that keyboard layout changes normally.
2.7. Login to 'GNOME FlashBack session (Compiz)' and check that you can place windows on left and right half of the screen. Open two Nautilus or other windows and drag them to the left and to the right.
2.8. Check indicator icon sizes on gnome-panel (see bug 1263228)
I tried this testcase on Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS, 14.04.4 LTS, 16.04 LTS and 16.10 and documented the results in Google Docs table (see https:/
According to my test results I can conclude that there is only one usable Ubuntu version - Ubuntu Precise Pangolin 12.04 LTS, others fail one or more tests.
Please fix aforementioned bugs in modern Ubuntu versions and add this testcase to ubuntu-

we can only test defaults here - some people might like to run other desktops too - we can't have default tests for every combination.
