Bug Description

tech info in the attachment
the broadcom 5761 supports jumbo frames as stated in the official user guide (page 5):
https://www.broadcom.com/docs/support/ethernet_nic/Broadcom_NetLink-NetXtreme_DTM_15.4.pdf

if I ty to set the MTU higher than 1500 I receive a "SIOCSIFMTU: Invalid argument" error.

Also tried with an old 12.04 disti but same effect.

I have the feeling I'm doing something wrong but really can't find so I came to the conclusion that must be a bug showing up for whatever reason.

Hardware is a Dell Precision M4800 with latest BIOS version (A13)

let me know if you need further information from what is already contained in the apport file.

I've found some statements about the card not supporting jumbo frames but nothing official.

thanks,
Alessandro

Hi Brad!

perhaps I raised a ticket for nothing: I find people mentioning using jumbo
frame on that card but no trace of the MTU size in the windows driver; some
says it doesn't support jumbo frames, some others yes, the official doc I
linked in the bug report says jumbo frames are supported... perhaps who'ss
been working on the tg3 kernel module/portion has got better info...

Long story short: don't get mad at it ;)

thanks,
Alessandro
