i8k seems to be an ongoing problem for Ubuntu and Dell machines. We've had problems with i8k on other Dell machines. No solutions were reached. All threads marked as SOLVED were narrow in scope concerning a few models. Alternative was to dump Ubuntu and install Microsoft.

Got this same error on my computer I use for G.I.S.

Sad because our IT guy said it could not be fixed running Ubuntu 16.04. He said he's had these issues for years now with Ubuntu and i8k.

I know that some in the other departments have issues with Dell desktops and i8k because they got new machines because of it.

I'm not a IT expert or a Ubuntu expert; I just use it for work. That said, I do know that i8k has to do with fans and I know that we had computers overheat and burn out because the fans weren't running. I talked with a manager and he said they were looking at other alternatives because Ubuntu was causing problems. Things like no fans, no fan control, or fans running at max speed until they burn out quickly.
