Bug Description

Binary package hint: mythtv

Currently, PVR 350 video output fails miserably. Even if the user is to go around and setup X to output via ivtv-fb, it still fails "With failed to display video" in mythtv.

This has been reported here: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ivtv/users/36980

And can be solved by a very small patch that only affects IVTV video output portions of mythtv:
http://www.iarmst.demon.co.uk/test/mythfix-ivtv-v3.patch

This is anything but "a very small patch", it's a rewrite of half of the ivtv driver. I won't let this into SRU until there are some acks from motu-sru and some test results on other hardware.

MOTU-SRU doesn't exist any more. All SRU's go directly from MOTU's
themselves. I have this on the PPA already and at least two people using it
without trouble, but I've told them to hold off on commenting it until it
was released to gutsy-proposed. Isn't the point of gutsy-proposed though so
that people can more availably test it?

Also,

I've got this patch running on two of my own systems (without this hardware). The IVTV output is only activated when explicitly enabled in the frontend setup (and requires you to have that particular hardware)

I had mythtv with the PVR-350 tv-out working on Fedora core, but "accidentally" upgraded the kernel and broke it. I decided to try Ubuntu Feisty with a fresh install for unimportant reasons. I was thereafter able to get mythtv working, but the tv-out wouldn't display. At one point, I installed Mythbuntu, which again got most of what I wanted working rather quickly, but no tv-out. About two weeks ago, I reinstalled again with Gutsy, and was able to get mythtv running, but again without tv-out. Finally, this evening, I ran a google search on "saa7127 test_image=1" to see what kind of other cool test patterns I could find, and accidentally found this bug fix. I thought WTF, and installed it. And it worked.

After nearly ten months (and two major kernel releases) of trial and error, this patch solved my myth problems (the big one anyway). I understand that the update needs to be tested, but I specifically bought the pvr-350 (and started toying with Linux in the first place) in order to use my old computer as a DVR with output to the full size TV. Please get this built into the next Ubuntu release!

After upgrading from Feisty (ivtv 0.10.6) to Gutsy (ivtv 1.0.0), the TV-out on my Hauppauge PVR-350 stopped working. This fix got it working again in Gutsy.

This has been verified by several members both using and not using hardware. Members with the hardware have verified that it fixes the problem, and without hardware that it doesn't break theirs. (I personally don't have the hardware and made sure it didn't break anything additionally)

Can an archive admin please release it to -updates?
Thanks.
