Thank you Jerome. A friend installed vmware for me so I will pass your message on to him. He's gone travelling for a few months (or years). I will try to get it organise myself but if I can't I'll get back to you if I may.

My computer is set up with a Windows partition, a Ubuntu partition and a swap partition. In addition I have windows in vmware in the ubuntu partition. I am wanting to remove the windows partition and run all windows programs in vmware.

I struck another problem with the new version of Ubuntu. It wouldn't recognise the files in the swap partition, though funnily enough it did once, I think it was because I had just been logged into windows.

I know this is complicated but I need some windows multimedia programs as I teach them.

Best regards

Rus Watson

I think it would be better to raise your problem on the support tracker : https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu I'm closing this as vmware is not an official package of ubuntu.
