No Boot Splash for Gutsy Final

Bug Description

Dell 1501 inspiron
2 gig ram
amd dual core turion
bios 2.4.1

I have absolutely no boot splash during startup or shutdown, just a complete black screen. Everything runs ok, but its looking at a black screen wondering if the system will start or shutdown.

Same here:
intel dual core 6600
NVIDIA GEFORCE 8 series graphics card
LCD screen

I tried to set vga=791 as kernel boot option and/or removed "quiet" and "splash" but it does not help.
However tty1 does work.

Yea i tried the same things, and got nothing. I have the integrated ati
card. Im thinking it has to do with the driver. Oh well, maybe when amd\ati
release a new driver ill try that. Even the new 8.42.3 is not helping at
all.

I found a solution:
first edit the following file:

sudo vim /etc/usplash.conf

there change the default resolution, i.e. 1024 and 768
my file looks like this:

#Usplash configuration file
xres=1024
yres=768

then run:

sudo update-initramfs -u

that did the trick for me.

Excellent! Brilliant! Fixed me too! I have the Ubuntu Gutsy startup splash for the first time!

Thanks for this bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu. This particular bug has been already reported as bug #150930 which affects ubiquity which install a bad /etc/usplash.conf during the ubuntu installation. Feel free to report any other bugs you might find.
