Bug Description

I'm runny a reased and updated Ubuntu 7.10. Something about applet panels still doesn't work correctly. Now they always appear but I've noticed that the Gedit open file window comes up anchored to the bottom of the screen behind the lower applet bar. I've also noticed that when pigin is started by Sessions at startup the window sometimes comes up lower in the scree than where it was the last time. I normally keep it at the top right up against the upper applet bar. When it starts lower it drops the height of an applet bar as if I'd placed two applet bars at the top.

If you're still having this problem please try to explain it again because it's not very clear. Things keep changing place?

Open a Gedit window with the bottom edge of the window touching the lower
applet bar. Click the open icon. The bottom of the open window will be be
partialy covered by the applet bar. The "Cancel" and "Open" buttons are
covered by the applet bar.

I just tried what you said but everything is fine for me. Those buttons are right above the bottom panel so they are visible. What resolution do you have?

I can't reproduce this bug so I don't think that much can be done about this but I'll leave the bug open.

I've been running Compiz. I tried turning Compiz off and the problem went
away.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

Disabling Compiz fixed the Gedit related part and 8.04 doesn't display the
Gedit issue with Compiz. Pidgin still seems to creap down the window after
reboots but that is far less annoying than when the Gedit Open window hid
the buttons behind the lower applet bar. Other than pidgin, windows seem to
open in logical places and retain their screen position if coded that way.

Since it's been a very long time since any additional info was added to this bug, I'm just checking to see if this is still an issue, and find out what additional work should be done on this bug.
