You are trying to install in bios mode but your disk uses GPT partitions. You need to create a 1 mb bios_grub partition.

Changed in grub-installer (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Good point, but shouldn't partman take care of that like it used to do?

Good point; partman should check and warn you if you do not have one.

affects: grub-installer (Ubuntu) → partman-partitioning (Ubuntu)
Changed in partman-partitioning (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: Invalid → Triaged
summary: - Install Failed post-install initramfs event
+ partman should have a check script to warn if missing bios_grub
+ partition

On a related note, if one specifically decides to _not_ create a biosgrub partition and attempts to skip past the message asking you to do so using "partman-partitioning/no_bootable_gpt_biosgrub" it just locks up d-i.

Does anyone know if "partman-partitioning/no_bootable_gpt_biosgrub" actually exists if it does anything? Searching online suggests this as the workaround for preseed but I can't find any evidence of code existing that actually makes this work.
