Not sure if it is the same bug, but when I compile my MT7630 wireless driver, I just started getting that message also.
I'm on 4.4.0-19 generic #35. Cannot compile any modules:

message is always modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'module': Required key not available.
fails for MT7630, and evdi modules which are both external to the source tree.

It looks like this is due to the changes implemented in Bug #1566221 to block loading of unsigned or incorrectly signed modules. I'm wondering if it's possible to have DKMS use the ubuntu signing key?

affects: virtualbox (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)
