Bug Description
Binary package hint: openvpn
Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy uses openvpn-2.0. That's an old version, last release was in Oct 2006
openvpn.net has openvpn-2.1_rc4, released on Apr 2007. This version is recommended by the OpenVPN community, see the mailing list archives. Other distributions, such as Fedora, use 2.1. It is stable enough for production. Additionally, it has many features which 2.0 does not provide, such as "topology subnet" - this creates compatibility problems when using Ubuntu as an OpenVPN client with other operating systems as servers which typically use 2.1.
Please upgrade the OpenVPN package in Ubuntu to the latest 2.1. Thank you.

openvpn (2.1~rc7-1ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low
* New upstream version (LP: #157144).
* Disable creation of tun, let udev handle it.
