Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

Filtering email into personal folders is hit and miss, sometimes it works but a lot of the time it doesn't restart of whole machine fixes sometimes, restart of evolution doesn't. The previous version didn't have this many problems, is this related to fixes in spam filtering or new feature, reliability of Evolution has gone down.

50+ filters, mostly email address into local folders names, some are
recipients based, 90% of them are sender based. I also noticed that
filtering doesn't work initially but if I manually filter by selecting the
mail and doing ctrl-y it works, if I then shutdown evolution and bring it
back up and do the same thing over a few times, filtering starts to work.
It's possible having too many emails to filter is breaking something. This
is all based on using Evolution Exchange connector based email account.

Thanks for your response.

I am experiencing this bug as well. I have a single account using the exchange protocol, and two filters which are supposed to move messages to particular folders based on the From address.

For example, "if sender is <email address hidden>, move to folder personal/blah".
In the account editor, I have the "Apply filters to new messages in Inbox on this server" checked for this particular account. I just installed Gutsy a few days ago and I'm fully updated. Here are my evolution-related packages:

evolution: 2.12.0-0ubuntu5
evolution-common: 2.12.0-0ubuntu5
evolution-data-server: 1.12.0-0ubuntu5
evolution-data-server-common: 1.12.0-0ubuntu5
evolution-exchange: 2.12.0-0ubuntu1
evolution-plugins: 2.12.0-0ubuntu5
evolution-webcal: 2.12.0-0ubuntu1

I believe it happens after the exchange connector daemon dies unexpectedly, although I'm not sure if it opens/closes automatically as needed. I do know that killing all the cache folders re-sync's and download folders and filtering works for a while again. Killing all the processes and restarting evolution alone doesn't work alone.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
