Bug Description

I have an Inspiron 1501, 2gb of ram, 1.9ghz processor. I am dual booting vista and 7.10 Ubuntu. I had 7.04 but had a unsolvable problem with my system and had to reload everything, so i figured I'll give 7.10 a chance. When I start my computer it goes to the OS choice menu I obviously choose Ubuntu then the screen goes black for about 3 minutes without showing anything, then it goes straight into Ubuntu login screen. I never had this problem with 7.04, so it cant be normal, and me being new to Ubuntu I haven't got the slightest on how to fix this, if anyone has any ideas please don't hesitate to spit them out. thx

Good evening,

Does Ubuntu 7.10 take longer to boot then Vista? What do you mean by "way too long to boot". If you are having problems where the splash screen is not showing up, please edit the boot by selecting "e" when you are prompted for what OS to use and then change "splash" to "nosplash" and see if that solves the problem.

Let me know if I can help further,

Thanks,

Jonathan

I'm currently dual booting Vista and Kubuntu and timed it and my Vista boot is a little longer then Kubuntu is. I think I'm going to have to assign it back to the Ubuntu Dev team to track this down.

Assinging this to the Dekstop Bugs team, hopefully this is correct. Ubuntu is booting slower for some then Feisty does and sometimes even slower then a dual boot of Vista. Hopefully I assinged it to the rigth tema.

Ubunto Version 6.06 is OK and boots up fine
Ubuntu Version 7.04 is OK and boots up fine
Ubuntu Version 7.10 takes 7 to 10 mintues to bring up System also same problem 7 to 10 mintues to recognise/ boot up Version 7.10 CD install
I know my system is old - but is dependable... So!
No option but to go back using Version 6.06

i've noticed some speed increase in 8.04 over 7.10 and am wondering if you have had a chance to try any of the alphas yet to see if you have noticed a speed increase?

Thanks,

Jonathan
