I've been following upstream development, but there were always important bugs that prevented me from making an upload.

The packages in that opensuse repository have been very seriously broken in the past. Their use is strongly discouraged. The packager for those packages doesn't understand or follow Debian and Ubuntu policies. Expect breakage.
