Bug Description

I am running version 0.91 on windows 7

When i create a circle and click on it, the information tool bar on the bottom of the screen sometimes says it is an ellipse, even though the circle's width and height are the same number as a circle would be. I don't know how to reproduce this error.

Thanks

Forgot to mention that the circles are objects not paths. I rotated them and held down ctrl to make symmetrical.

Thanks for taking the time to file a report!

Tested on Windows XP (32-bit) with Inkscape 0.91 and trunk rev. 14654.

When creating the circle, the status bar says it's an ellipse, but when I release the mouse button to create the object and then select it with the Selection tool, it correctly says it's a circle.

How did you create your circle? Note that the values in the control bar are not *very* accurate. In a case where you had an ellipse (different rx and ry) and then use the tools control bar to set the same value to the H and W entries, you're not sure it's exactly the same rx and ry in the SVG file. To be 100% sure, you can use the XML editor (Shift+Ctrl+X) and check that your object has an r value instead of rx and ry. If not, you can affect the same value to both attributes with the XML editor, and the ellipse should be correctly changed into a circle.

Could you please test again and confirm?

If it still doesn't work, don't hesitate to attach and example SVG file and a screenshot showing your circle and the status bar message.

Like i said I don't know how to reproduce it. I did repeat what led to it but it said circle that time. May have been a fluke. Why isn't the values in the control bar *very* accurate? Is it because it's only to 3 decimal places?

Yes, and because the numeric precision (set in Edit>Preferences>Input/Output>SVG Output) can be too big to fit in the control bar entries (the default is 8 significant figures written in the SVG file).

No problem. I keep the report open for now. Don't hesitate to comment if you run into the same issue again.
