Bug Description

On gutsy - amd64, acroread always shows this error message is started with no file as argument. Is there any way to provide it with the missing library or a way to avoid the error message?
ia32-libs are installed, which subsume the ia32-libs-gtk libs in gutsy.

Thanks for your bug report.
Confirmed on amd64 (no issue on i386). This is due to the HelpViewer which needs a 32bits libgtkembededmoz, but there is no easy/clean way to provide it.

I see the same on i386. I had to specify the /usr/lib/firefox directory in the acroread preferences.

I would like to confirm this bug for i386 and acroread 8.1.1-0medibuntu3.

It seems that Acrobat Reader stores the requested preference data "/usr/lib/firefox" in the file acrogre.conf and reader_prefs (binary file).

Finally I found a workaround. After the installation of Acrobat Reader insert the following to your terminal:

mkdir -p $HOME/.adobe/Acrobat/8.0/Preferences && echo "/usr/lib/firefox" >> $HOME/.adobe/Acrobat/8.0/Preferences/acrogre.conf

It seems that the reader_prefs is generated automatically and doesn't have to be edited. I don't know if this a suitable way to solve the problem for your package. If it is I would recommend:

1.) Install Acrobat Reader.
2.) Check if /usr/lib/firefox/libgtkembededmoz is availiable. If it is, create acrogre.conf with "/usr/lib/firefox".

Note: This would only work for the user that installs the package. Other $HOME directories are not affected.

On hardy, it asks me to change the libgtkembedmoz folder from "/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9" because it's not in there. The correct solution for hardy would be to add a dependency on the libxul0d package, and use "/usr/lib/xulrunner" as the default for the setting.

Hi Daniel,
I'm not able to reproduce your problem. Are you using a 32 or 64bits distribution ? Also, could you try to move ~/.adobe away and see if the problem still occurs ?
here on a fresh install, it either doesn't prompt for the missing library if it doesn't exist, or uses it if it does

Cheers

BTW, 8.1.2-0medibuntu6 is the version I have.

32

Done. It does.

I installed using the 8.04.1 alternate installer, but that should not
matter. Once I install the missing package and remove the "-1.9" from
the path, it works.

Easiest way to reproduce it:
1) Install acroread and acroread-plugins.
2) Fire up the reader.
3) Accept the agreement.
4) Hit the F1 key.

Fixed in -0medibuntu6.2 in hardy, on i386. The package now recommends libxul0d, and acroread seems to pick up the right directory if libxul0d is installed.

Cheers

I did install libxul0d for 8.1.2-0medibuntu6, and it still did not pick up the correct directory if I deleted ~/.adobe, so you're suggesting a conflict with the xulrunner-1.9 package, which the firefox package recommends. So, I think this bug is probably not fixed yet.
