Bug Description

I'm trying to get drivers that work for my wireless g desktop network card. There are three broadcom drivers that appear at the top of the search. I'm using synaptic package manager. It uninstalled the first two to replace them with this one. Somewhere around 90% of the install I got this error message. I still haven't found drivers that works. It was working before the reinstall. I just don't remember the name of the driver.

Hi, Is this really a duplicate of bug #1358966 ?

This bug concerns the broadcom-sta-dkms package and the bug #1358966 concerns the bcmwl-kernel-source package which does not contain the same release of wl source code of the Broadcom proprietary driver :

$ apt-cache show broadcom-sta-dkms bcmwl-kernel-source | egrep "Version:|Package:"
Package: broadcom-sta-dkms
Version: 6.30.223.141-1
Package: bcmwl-kernel-source
Version: 6.30.223.248+bdcom-0ubuntu0.2
Package: bcmwl-kernel-source
Version: 6.30.223.141+bdcom-0ubuntu2

So the reasons for both not be build might be different, can you double check ?

I'm not the best with command prompts. I would need step by step directions to double check the issue.

Why am I redirected to this duplicate bug everytime I install an update of a new 4.2.0 kernel ? If it is a duplicate Ubuntu error detection should redirect to the other bug instead.

The redirection to the wrong issue (and the issue itself of course) is still present with 4.2.0-41.

I am inclined to agree with Seb Bonnard (sebma) as above, this bug concerns the broadcom-sta-dkms package, not the bcmwl-kernel-source package.

My computer is running Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr), and the wireless functions with the bcmwl-kernel-source package installed as an alternative driver. This bug occurred when I installed the broadcom-sta-dkms as an additional driver. I am not sure why, but I assume the broadcom-sta-dkms is not compatible with my system, so I will be removing it.
