Bug Description

4.2.0-18-generic and upstream 4.4-rc2 both have no input after grub. The touchpad also doesn't work and I would guess they are related since both devices show up as children of the GSPI and LPSS controllers in OS X.

Nell Hardcastle, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

To advise, this report is scoped only to the keyboard not working (not the touchpad or any other issue). Hence, you are welcome to file a new report regarding the touchpad.

Despite this, the keyboard issue is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem following the instructions verbatim at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel to the appropriate venue (TO Dmitry Torokhov CC linux-input)?

Please provide a direct URL to your newly made report when it becomes available so that it may be tracked.

Thank you for your understanding.

There's already Launchpad bug #1462761 for the touchpad, should I still file a new Launchpad bug for it?

Moepi is working on this issue. (http://moepi.net/?page_id=213)

Right now he tries to cmopare the 12,1 setup with the 8,1.

Keyboard/trackpad: I’m desperate. Now I’m playing with DSDT dumps, ACPI Assembler and code that might brick my MacBook sooner or later. I’m afraid I cannot fix that issue without help. What I would need are DSDT dumps and some infos from sysfs from someone who owns a MacBookPro12,1 (the 13″ model from 2015).

I believe the bcm5974/bcm5976 driver needs to be extended with support for accessing the controller over the SPI bus. It's possible the USB driver is no help and the whole thing needs to be implemented specifically for this device.

Yes, if you would like to expedite the issue being addressed as soon as possible.

Regarding the keyboard issue, could you please first test kernel 4.4-rc4, and if still reproducible post a URL of your upstream post to the mailing list as previously requested in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1520874/comments/3 ?

This bug is still valid and still exists, affecting other users. I think closing it is premature. Can we re-open it? Would you prefer I file a new bug for exactly the same issue?

Thanks,
Wes

Anomaly256, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with the Ubuntu repository kernel (not mainline/upstream) via a terminal:

From 3 years ago? No sorry I've given up on ubuntu entirely after the
18.04+netplan+liveservercloudstupid installer nonsense and have opted for
more sane distros.
