Bug Description

Binary package hint: vmware-player

Dear archive admins,

please remove vmware-player 1.0.2-2 from gutsy/multiverse. It has no rdepends but it's broken with the kernel in Gutsy (removal request: #151423), uninstallable and depends on openssl libssl0.9.7 which should also be removed from Gutsy (no bug filed yet). The package is also outdated as there is a new major version (2.0) provided by VMware.

[asterix] ~ > rmadison -S -u ubuntu -s gutsy vmware-player
vmware-player | 1.0.2-2 | gutsy/multiverse | source, amd64, i386

Ideally, we'd replace it with http://packages.debian.org/sid/vmware-package

But it's not doubt late for that...

vmware-player 2.0.1 and an updated linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 can be found in my ppa : http://ppa.launchpad.net/cschieli/ubuntu gutsy

It has been reported to work by a few people (see bug 135358)
