Bug Description

After upgrading to new kernel, attempts to print resulted in no printer activity and no error messages. Printer is Canon Maxify 2320 using Canon Linux drivers and is attached via LAN. Rebooted into -50 kernel and printing worked normally again.

Symptom is print job shows up in queue but is never sent to printer.

Scanning function of printer works.

Confirmed on following real machine installs

Screenshot showing the print job processing forever (this print job was a blank page). Rebooted into -65 kernel and it printed fine.

I have the same issue on Ubuntu Mate 14.04.3 LTS with kernel 3.16.0-51

With this kernel the Canon network driver stopped to work. The command "cnijnetprn --search auto" doesn't find any printer.
If I boot a previous kernel, it works fine.

Thanks. That has been my experience as well.

I have this same issue in Ubuntu 15.10. My printer shows up and installs, but nothing prints.

Some more details on the observe issues:
- I'm using the Canon drivers from ppa:michael-gruz/canon-trunk. They add a new network protocol shown "cnijnet:/" which doesn’t seem to work with the new kernel
- If the Canon printer was installed with previous kernel, it doesn't print because the cnijnet protocol stopped working. You can find the used protocol in the printer settings "device address"
- If you try to install a Canon printer with this kernel, it will detect the printer only with the protocol dns-sd and not cnijnet. The printer partly seems to work with this protocol, but not all features are supported (like the Canon printer tools)
- The Canon tool cnijnetprn doesn't find any network printer

I used the drivers from the Canon website. They use a protocol called "cnijbe2:/" which also does not work with the new kernel. I couldn't get the dns-sd protocol to work yet, but I am still working on it.

I was able to find a fix/workaround and regain LAN printing to the Canon with the latest kernels.

I went into Printer Properties for the printer. The Device URI looked like this:
cnijbe2://Canon/?port=net&serial=F4-91-39-42-53-Z1 (Not my printer's real MAC address but you get the idea)
I changed it to
ipp://192.168.1.6 (where that is the LAN IP of the printer, permanently assigned in my router)

And it worked!

I now have the same issue on Lubuntu 12.04.5 LTS with kernel 3.13.0-71.
The previous kernel 3.13.0-68 and below work fine.

I have the same issue in Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS. Printing to my Canon MX870 was fine in 3.13.0-68-generic but Ive been unable to print using any of the later kernels including 3.13.0-74-generic which is the latest I have installed.

As a workaround I print via network routing to another laptop with ubuntu 15.10 kernel 4.2.0-23-generic

Could I continue with debugging this issue
