Firefox segfault at startup

Bug Description

Gutsy Gibbon beta -- Firefox had been working with a handful of extensions. After booting today it opens a window and instantly crashes. I tried starting from a terminal and got "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" every time. I can't find the core dumps. Firefox will start with "-safe-mode".

After reboot Firefox still segfaults. I did drag a file to the Firefox icon in the upper applet bar and Firefox started -- using it now.

It still segfaults when clicking the Firefox icon but dragging any file to the icon yields a startup.

I can confirm this is happening to me as well. A clean profile seems to fix it... until you install some extensions. Then 1 time out of 10 it will start, the rest it will just segfault. Seems quite random.

Weird behaviour with extensions since this started happening (all installed using the new profile):
* GMAIL manager: won't connect, won't work at all, AND if enabled, CTRL+CLICK or MIDDLE CLICK on links won't open links in new tabs.
* Stylish: styles won't get loaded. Period.

It was working just fine 2 days ago. Binary from GetFirefox.com works fine with my new and my old Firefox profile.

What I mean is that this is not an extensions problem, since Mozilla's binary work just fine with those on the same Firefox version as Ubuntu's.

This is happening to me as well on Gutsy. It's been working fine for a few days since the upgrade and suddenly today started segfaulting. At first I thought it was just my start page causing it (igoogle) but then it started doing it seemingly at random on startup, segfaulting more often than not. I tried enabling/disabling certain extensions but it's still behaving somewhat randomly so it's hard to pinpoint the cause.

I'm having a similar issue. At some point firefox seems to start segfaulting at startup. I'm running gutsy on an amd64, with gmail manager, nspluginwrapper for flash and a few other extensions.

gdb.log attached.

I confirm the bug and the Luis Alberto Pabón's solution installing package from getfirefox.com

I'm on Ubuntu 7.04 and using Firefox 2.0.0.12. I've experienced the problem with one of my many stylish styles. It wasn't loading on startup. I kept getting "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" after closing the application. I was also testing this behavior on a new profile but after installing more extensions the style stopped loading, again.

Installing package from getfirefox.com solved the problem. I even used the same profile and everything was OK.

Blimey, I forgot about this bug.

I'm running Hardy now. And I can confirm that it hasn't been fixed yet. Some
custom Ubuntu code in Firefox is seriously broken, as the binaries from
Getfirefox.com still work perfectly. Some code added on the first week of
October 2007. It makes impossible to use Firefox with any extensions.

first off i closed because too many people on this bug without info needed to see what issue is. There should only be one person per crash report because sometimes steps to reproduce bug is same the cause of the crash maybe different. If anyone still sees this but in firefox-2 or better yet firefox-3.0 please open a new bug report either using apport or Help> Report a problem and attach a backtrace to your bug report. to obtain a backtrace please foillow the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs
If you are still seeing this i would rather have firefox-3.0 crashes sincce firefox-2.0 is about to run out of support and since its not a security bug it wont apply to a SRU

Changed in firefox:
status: New → Invalid

I have not experienced crashes on FF3, but crashes on FF2 kept going on up
until I switched to FF3 beta when upgrading to Hardy.

How is FF2 going to run out of support? FF3 is not even final, still a
beta...
