No sound output via HDMI/DisplayPort available on kernel 3.19.0-18

Using the latest kernel 3.19.0-18 on vivid no sound output via HDMI/DP is available in the sound settings dialog, which is/was available with the previous kernel version 3.19.0-16 .

Özgür Caner, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t540p an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.18). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

I can confirm this bug on a System76 Kudu Professional (i7-4900MQ).

Booting with 3.19.0-18-generic, I don't get any HDMI option in the Output tab in the sound settings UI.

Booting with 3.19.0-16-generic, I get an HDMI option and it works fine. So this is a regression between 3.19.0-16-generic and 3.19.0-18-generic, not anything related to the BIOS version that Özgür Caner is running.
