Bug Description

When running aptitude, gnome-app-install or synaptic on the live cd of gutsy beta (and a few daily builds before that), these applications freeze when trying to read the package list. Happens also with the firefox plugin manager.
This occurs every time to both the 32 and 64 bit versions.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This is probably a duplicate of bug 144945 which was mentioned in the release announcement of the Beta CD. Please check dmesg for a kernel oops related to the unionfs to confirm whether or not his a duplicate bug report. Thanks in advance.

It seems that the culprit is indeed unionfs. The output of dmesg after running synaptic is very similar to the output of bug #144945. So it probably is a duplicate. Thanks.

I'd feel more comfortable about marking this as a duplicate of bug 144945 if I could see the actual kernel oops report. Could you please add it to your bug report? Thanks in advance.

This time, when I tried to run synaptic to save the dmesg output, it did not freeze immediately, but hung when I reloaded the list (after downloading the files). I will provide the dmesg output before and after running synaptic and aptitude. I 'll try to provide the dmesg output discussed before.

The attachment shows the dmesg output with the kernel oops. A difference I noticed in respect to bug #144945 is that there is a permission call in the call trace, as I ran synaptic without sudo.
