Bug Description

This may be an issue with another part of the system (content hub?) but after starting a podcast, when I switch to another app - PodBird stops playing after a few minutes.

When I switch back, the app has a 'low res' look to it and eventually resumes playback (but from some time before the playback stopped so I have to listen to the same content again).

I can provide any logs necessary on request.

BQ device
Ubuntu Update r21
Podbird 0.6

<nik90> jhodapp: hey, I just noticed that when podbird is running in the background playing a online stream, if you open a number of apps such that you hit the memory limit where podbird is killed by the system, the playback also stops..Shouldn't media-hub prevent that?
<jhodapp> nik90, nope, when the client application goes away so does the media-hub playback session

<jhodapp> nik90, we may do what you said in the future after we get some additional lifecycle additions into UT
<nik90> jhodapp: hmm..so there is never a way to ensure that the playback continues regardless of the state of the system.
<tenleftfingers> nik90: I've noticed that problem. Playback will eventually stop when PodBird is in the background. Also, it doesn't resume playback from the right place (and sometimes it starts from the beginning again): https://bugs.launchpad.net/podbird/+bug/1449719

I am finding that Podbird will just crash when trying to play in the background after a second after switching to another app.

I believe this issue is because of this bug, perhaps podbird users could raise the profile, as this is something Canonical need to address.

I can confirm having the same issue, in one particular session. I was finding that Podbird would stop play once the phone locked..
For example:-

I unlock the phone, set Podbird playind. after about 20 seconds the screen dims, and then goes off ( as expected ) Then 1 minute later Podbird stops playing...
Push the button to bring the screenlock up and Podbird starts playing again.. Rinse and Repeat as a above.

I am also finding that Podbird simply stops playing, and there seems nothing I can do to get it to start again, even restarting / rebooting the phone Podbird refuses to start. Then a while later it returns to playing weird..

I've also got odd behaviour with network switch over, but I'll report those details on Bug 1446859

This bugs affects every single music playing app and not just Podbird. I'm moving this to the ubuntu-application-lifecycle project since there is not much Podbird can do to stop this.

no longer affects: podbird

So what's the issue here exactly as I'm reading two different scenarios. One scenario is when podbird might be killed due to the out of memory killer (OOM). The other just seems to be when podbird is not in the foreground or one locks the screen. This latter one I've never been able to reproduce whereas the former one is valid and something that should be addressed.
