Removed as much as I could to try fresh install. (Too many hours trying to fix.
Error on reinstall. Looks like I didn't completely remove?

You say you removed everything, but you didn't remove the database. You may have removed the database package, but that doesn't delete the database in mysql.

Thanks for getting back Thomas.   I'm still fairly new to linux (occasional dabbler - though I would like to switch completely).
I'l start from scratch again.  Will remove the db.

Hi Thomas
I have removed the contents of mythconverg and then removed the directory.
I have purged mythtv-database, mythtv-common, emptied the contents of mythtv and .mythtv folders, compared config.xml files, 9about 5?) all the same password.

Fresh install gives this:-

E: mythtv-database: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: mythtv: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
