Bug Description

Binary package hint: bluez-utils

happened while updating packages, during the bluez-utils setting up is could not stop the bluetooth service and the update process stopped. i am not sure why this happened, i know the only thing i changed with bluetooth was stopping the service starting up with the computer..

when the update process was terminated, the error in the summary appeared. i solved it by using dpkg to correctly install the package, but this is probably beyond a novice users skillset.

no, it doesnt although i know it failed because it couldnt stop the
bluetooth service.

as far as i know, i had stopped the bluetooth service from starting with the
computer so it may have had the problem trying to stop a service that was
already stopped

So, how did you use apt-get to reinstall bluez-utils?

I tried that and it once again gets hung up on trying to stop the bluetooth service.

I tried to just uninstall bluez-utils and couldn't because it was in an inconsistent state. It said to reinstall it - I tried that and it once again hangs at trying to turn off bluetooth services.

So, any hints on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. I can't update my system at all at the moment.

kenw: Try to temporarily comment out 'invoke-rc.d bluetooth stop || exit $?' in /var/lib/dpkg/info/bluez-utils.prerm file (or replace exit $? with true). Edit the .prerm file and insert # before this command, save and then try to upgrade. Remember to revert any changes to .prerm file afterwards.

Make sure the bluetooth service is stopped first before doing this: 'sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth stop'
