Bug Description

Running kernel on Ubuntu 14.04.2.

At random times, (especially when touching the touchpad after not touching it for a period of time), the display goes black !

Using QHD display resolution : 3200x1800

More information about hardware can be found here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1434963

Otherwise 14.04.2 runs fine / perfectly on this brand-new machine.

It also seems to happen after the system had been successfully recovered from suspending.

Also, it one time, just wanted to switch on to resume, and the whole display went 'disco', meaning, it was flashing wildly, recovery impossible...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, since HP claims they 'support' 14.04 on this Workstation.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.0 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

It seems to occure only afer the system has been suspended at least once !

Today I even connected a beam for the whole day whilst teaching.
No issues what so ever (despite rather high heat dispersion).
Machine runs very smoothly !

But after having suspeded once, sreen went black (recovery impossible (at least with my knowledge)).

Thanks for any help.

PS: HP seems to claim that Ubuntu Linux should be supported on this new workstation...
