Bug Description

After updating all Kubuntu 15.04 package and restarting, KDE 5 is corrupted. After logging in, I see that the background is black, the default panel white background is only loaded (I can't see any buttons in it) and I can't run commands in Run Command (ALT+F2 opens it. Enter button does nothing. Clicking the button at the left of the textbox results closing Run Command).
I booted with Upstart, because of a bug that prevents me from booting normally. My only way to use Kubuntu is through Fail Safe (After booting with Upstart). ubuntu-bug doesn't work well in Fail Safe, so this was the only way to report.
systemd boot must be fixed, before the final release. This bug is very critical. The user must at laest be able to boot correctly.

Do you have the same issue when booting up with systemd?

I've seen the same symptoms on several of the updates during the vivid development cycle. I believe I've seen the problems while others haven't because always I go in and change the default theme, colors, positions, etc. and have multiple monitors.

My workaround has been to delete everything in ~/.cache and restart KDE. That usually corrects the issue. In worst cases, I've had to remove the plasma* files out of ~/.config.

It might be a good idea if the future KDE packages cleared their files out of .cache automagically.

I'm using systemd, so I'm doubtful the init system has anything to do with the issues.

I deleted everything in ~/.cache except browsers folders and some folders in ~/.config then KDE 5 wasn'5 corrupted after logging in.
Thanks 3vi1. It worked.

Everything is fine in Kubuntu 15.04 Beta 2, which I installed. should I change the bug status to fi releases?

When logging into KDE5 (or XFCE4), I faced the same symptoms today. Deleting everything in ~/.cache allowed me to log back in. The main KDE panel had to be recreated.

I upgraded to 15.04 and now I have the following issues:

· I cannot login to KDE desktop in failsafe mode, and is a nightmare to get in the plasma desktop
· The Network Manager is having random issues: the wifi is disconnecting after several minutes, so I can't even do a proper aptitude upgrade. I'm having trouble even to fill this bug report.
· Everytime I login onto the Plasma desktop I get a black desktop, with apparently nothing on it: if I hover the mouse where the panels are suppose to be, I get notifications, but this situation is unnaceptable for a release.

I did what Sherif told, also killing some processes in order to get a workaround to use the desktop.

Really, this situation is unnaceptable. I can't work, and I think I can barely do an emergency backup to a pendrive in orden to reinstall the 14.10.

Is important to point out that I'm using a 64-bit version of Kubuntu, in a MSI M670 laptop. I expected some things to be more slower than normal, but this is ridiculous.

Also, the akonadi failed miserabily, leaving me without my PIM. The network interfaces, while I can manage to use, are really slow, and keeps failing within minutes.

The removable storage fails too, randomly, so you can't make a reliable backup.

And, finally, every configuration in Power Manager is changed.

DON'T UPGRADE TO 15.04 unless you're a tester. You can lose your data.
