scan repeats error prompt "Failed to create file: Permission denied"

running scan from hp-toolbox gets repeated error prompt (once brining up scan tools, thrice closing them)
i followed the fix instructions at the bottom of previous issue:

scan appears to work properly other than the error popup.

Thank you for attaching the hp-scan command output.
We were able to check that the scanned image is perfectly saved at location  /home/kdicke/hpscan002.png. There Is no permission denied message in the log file.

Do you see this issue only when you initiate scan from 'hp-toolbox' ?
Do you see the same behaviour when performing scan operation from xsane application?

if you  Can provide us more information on how to reproduce this issue it will help us to analyze it better.

using xsane replicates the problem. i turned on debug and captured the output (attached) though i see no reference to any file permission problems. i also attached the error popup.
