Bug Description

1) Cyrillic characters are not displayed correctly.

The following forum thread suggests the problem may be related to the encoding of the Russian translation catalogue, as the workaround is to use the English version of the interface instead of the Russian translation:
http://coccinella.im/node/52

2) Coccinella crashes during startup when the path contains Cyrillic characters (Windows):
http://coccinella.im/node/96

MacOSX: missing ATSUI support in 8.4.9 Support is in 8.5
Windows: works
Linux: with 8.5 there is support for xft and new fonts that have these glyphs can be selected. Seems the problem is with Helvetica now.

I was looking at tkabber and it also uses Helvetica for most things it seems. It also defines fonts of family "fixed" but that doesn't sound like a font containing the complete utf-8 glyph set. Tile does:

 if {![catch {tk::pkgconfig get fontsystem} fs] && $fs eq "xft"} {
     variable family "sans-serif"
 } else {
     variable family "Helvetica"
 }

which seems more promising. xft is in 8.5

This is working now in 0.96.6 on Mac (Windows worked already).
Sander: could you see how this works on linux (I cannot switch my network interface to recognize my router)
Maybe I need to switch Coccinellas default fonts to "sans-serif" from "Helvetica" on X11 boxes.

Issue #1 is fixed on Linux, issue #2 is still there. Maybe open a separate bug entry for it? This is the error output on the command line:

    /home/sdevrieze/п╨п╬я┤я┤п╦п╫п╣п╩п╩п╟/Coccinella-0.96.6L/lib/tcl8.5

This probably means that Tcl wasn't installed properly.

This has to do with the bootstrap procedure in the starkit. When it does the init.tcl it hasn't got the encodings yet. Perhaps a post at the tclkit list? Or search first.

Cyrillic from MSN transport received fine, but i cannot send cyrillic letters. Seems it is corrupted while typing and user is receiving also "garbage". Tested on latest development snapshot

I attach picture, you can see from VISP fog i received fine cyrillic letters, but trying to type "проверка" - fail.

Experiencing the same problem in 0.96.10. Russian letters are incorrect while typing messages. Operating system is Windows XP Russian, I’ll try to compile it from sources and report if the problem is solved. The solution in http://coccinella.im/node/52 DOES NOT work.

Great!

PS: is any of you interest in updating the Russian translation of Coccinella? As you might have seen in the daily build, there are no strings translated. This is because we switched to gettext and because of this we had to do a machine translation of all string. These machine translated strings are marked as fuzzy (because there are small errors in it) and gettext handles fuzzy strings as untranslated strings...
