Bug Description

I run Ubuntu Gutsy 32bit.

I create a pdf using LyX + pdflatex. The pdf file displays ok in evince. When I print it, the text is very blurry, equations are ok. When I open this pdf file in kpdf, it displays and prints ok. When I compile another TeX file using pdflatex without LyX in between, it displays and prints ok using both evince and kpdf.

This all is independent of printer, prints so even to another pdf. The original lyx file, pdf file and pdf generated by 'Print to file' are attached.

This happens for me too: current gutsy 64-bit.

In fact, if I choose "print to file" and make a postscript file, then the postscript file views blurry in evince.

Could this be a result of cairo falling back to bitmap images when it can't figure out how to do certain things in postscript directly?

Confirmed on current gutsy. This happens for various PDFs downloaded from the internet, so it's seem to be an important bug...

Note that this bug does NOT occur on Debian. Debian now has the same verions as ubuntu:

Ubuntu: evince=2.20.1-0ubuntu1 / libpoppler2=0.6.2-1
Debian: evince=2.20.1-2 / libpoppler2=0.6.2-1

So, either Ubuntu's evince patches have made it impossible to print many PDFs from evince, or it is a problem with another package... perhaps libfontconfig1?

Ubuntu = libfontconfig1=2.4.2-1.2ubuntu4
Debian = libfontconfig1=2.5.0-2
