Bug Description

Hi,

I have been using Inkscape 4.8.2 and the similar bug is happening. I am using a mac OSX 10.8.5 and xcode 11 XQuartz 2.7.5 (xorg-server 1.14.4).

Steps:
1. Open Inkscape
2. Open the SVG Font Editor (Text>SVG Font Editor).
3. Using font already set up (also happens with a new font)
4. Select previous font (or new font)
5. In the Kerning tab, move the Kerning value slider - able to align two fonts together
6. Once back into Glyphs tab type in letters which have just been paired.
7. Crash.

An error message box appears - however I cannot see any words, application freezes.

Also what I would like to do is create a font so the kerning will stay together. Is this what should happen? Or are the kerning/pairing settings in the SVG editor just applicable to inkscape?

I've managed to reproduce that kind of issue (only once) on Windows XP with 0.48.5, by playing with the slider and the preview letters, and then selecting the Glyphs tab. Unfortunately I was not running Inkscape in GDB and thus can't give a trace of what went wrong.

Impossible to test with 0.91 or the trunk due to some regressions (empty list of pairs, crashes, loading issue...).

I can confirm crashes on OS X 10.7.5 with stable X11-based versions (0.47, 0.48.2, 0.48.5) based on the font in the sample file provided by JazzyNico in bug #1406540, see comment 4 in bug #1406543:
<quote>
Note that earlier stable versions (using GTK+/X11) here crash when selecting one of the kerning pairs defined in 'font1' of the sample file. They also crash when trying to first add the second glyph 'b' to the text rendered in the preview area below the tabs. Tested with 0.48.5, 0.48.2, 0.47 on OS X 10.7.5.

IIRC these types of crashes in the SVG font editor have been reported before (but haven't searched for related reports yet).

<off-topic>
@Lisa - the latest stable release for OS X is Inkscape 0.48.5 - please consider upgrading (not that this would fix any issues with the SVG font editor, but it does include other bug fixes)
</off-topic>

Same or very similar crashes mentioned earlier in comment 3 of bug #1170002.

Hi, thanks for the report!

This issue has been fixed in 1.1, specifically by ab88670d052a3e383359e9b396ccb82f6939d8ed . Tested by reverting the commit, which reintroduced the crash (and noting the backtrace is similar/the same as https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/issues/860, which is what the commit aimed to fix.

Note: we've now migrated to a new bug tracker (and are very slowly migrating the issues over there). Please report any new issues you're seeing at http://inkscape.org/report (should redirect to our current bug tracker)
