Bug Description

To enable Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter I need to put the computer in sleep mode, then wake it up. Voila! The wifi adapter is activated.

This is a Asus R512C laptop. The function key for enabling/disabling Wifi is not working, but I noticed waking up from sleep would automatically activate the Wifi device.

Did this issue occur in a previous version of Ubuntu, or is this a new issue?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.18 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

No change. The function button will not toggle the hardware switch for Wifi, however coming out of sleep will automatically turn the hardware switch on.

Regarding the latest added tag, could a BIOS update solve this?

Updating the BIOS did not seem to change anything. The output of the command:

Kaj Ailomaa, did this problem not occur in a release prior to Trusty?

I just tried booting a live Ubuntu 12.04.5. The function button for wifi is still not working, but the wifi device is activated directly after boot.

Kaj Ailomaa, would you have any prior Trusty kernel versions still installed to test to see if this is a regression?
