Bug Description
Binary package hint: fai
Hy motu-uvf,
I've invested today one manday work for setting up fai 3.2.1. I've been using the packages on a dapper installation server but installing feisty. The scripts (and my modifications) are not likely to be that much dependend of installing gutsy or feisty, so I have very good confidence that we should have that in gutsy, so that we can at least bootstrap feisty. I'm pretty confident that gutsy install would also work.
I'd therefore like to request a UVF exception for the following source packages:
+ fai
+ live-initramfs
fai is now using live-initramfs instead of fai-kernels, which is alone worth upgrading to the new version. The old fai version was totally dependent of fai-kernels, which is currently tested only on i386, is known to not work on powerpc, likely to not work on amd64, unsupportable securitywise and totally outdated. I had problems with dma with the current version of live-initramfs, so I'd need an exception for that one as well.
Upgrading live-initramfs could break live-helper, which is developed in paralell. I know that Daniel is focusing on debian, but keeps a small eye on creating ubuntu live cds, so I'd say the danger of regression is lower with granting an exception for live-helper than not granting it.
Granting this exceptions would close the following bugs:
- bug #93876
- bug #89026
- bug #137511
I'm confident that bug #69862 can be closed as well.
Sounds good to me. Ack.
