2014-11-21 13:32:56,187 DEBUG abort called

Full logs attached.

Neither the GUI upgrade nor the command line told me why it failed nor did it point me at the relevant log; I only found it by asking a helpful follow Ubuntu user. Where then I discovered the ERROR.

Given that ubuntu-desktop-next is universe and Vivid is not yet even Alpha 1, I'm lowering the importance of this bug.

So if I see correctly the fix is changing the blacklist - what about the lack of error handling here? It seems that this will remain a recurring problem?

This bug was fixed in the package ubuntu-release-upgrader - 1:15.04.1

---------------
ubuntu-release-upgrader (1:15.04.1) vivid; urgency=medium

  * data/removal_blacklist.cfg: Modify entry for ubuntu-desktop to be
    ubuntu-desktop$ so that it doesn't match ubuntu-desktop-next.
    (LP: #1395000)
  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeApport.py: set DistroRelease to the release we are
upgrading to not the one which we are upgrading from.
