Bug Description

Dual Screen not working on 14.04 when I log in today. Get error message:

Failed to apply configuration: %s

GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._gnome_2drr_2derror_2dquark.Code2: could not set the configuration for CRTC 63

Yesterday I applied updates. Ubuntu software history shows these as:

bsdutils(2.20.1-5.1ubuntu20.2,2.20.1-5.1ubuntu20.3)
xserver-xorg-video-intel(2.99.910-0ubuntu1.2,2.99.910-0ubuntu1.3)

Previous to this I have had no problems with dual screen on 14.04.

WORKAROUND: Reverted to the Nouveau driver. The nvidia driver 331.38 previously worked but doesn't now after the above Ubuntu updates.

Hi Christopher,

Thanks for your response. At the moment I have unistalled the nvidia
drivers and am using the nouveau drivers. Do I need to re-install the
nvidia drivers before I carry out the command you have asked for?

After I download the driver file what would I need to do to install these
drivers and stop using the nouveau drivers. I previously have only used
the 'Additional Drivers' section of the 'software and updates' program in
Ubuntu to switch between drivers. Also could you give me the instructions
to switch back to the nouveau driver if the latest nvidia driver doesn't
work.

Thanks.

Thanks Christopher. I've read the link you sent and decided not to go down
this route at this stage due to the warnings and my relatively limited
knowledge. I'm using the nouveau drivers and they are currently working
for what I need, so I will stick with these until I hit something that I
can't do with them.

Thanks again for your support.

Leonardo Lima de Vasconcellos (leo-lima-web), it will help immensely if you filed a new report with Ubuntu by ensuring you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.
