Bug Description

I've got a typical problem with my NVidia GPU. I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 over windows 7 and completely wiped everything (on purpose), so I have a clean Ubuntu machine.
On Ubuntu 13.xx I had the NVidia card up and running with bumblebee, and on Windows 7 it worked as a charm. Now, it's not recognized as hardware any more.
Output here:

[dmesg] (paste.ubuntu.com/8574141) and [lspci -nn] (paste.ubuntu.com/8574145)

thanks!

Have you tried using the latest Nvidia proprietary drivers? There is some info here:

Hi Joseph,

I tried almost every source of drivers. I believe the problem is, that in no way Ubuntu can detect the NVidia GPU. Also tried askUbuntu.com, but no result.

Thank you, this did it. I had to purge and reinstall nvidia 331 updates through software and settings for it to work in the end.

Chiel van de Steeg, just to clarify, did you still want to pursue a fix a potential issue in BumbleBee or would you like to toggle this Status Invalid?

Ah, sorry. My problem is fixed and don't need bumblebee. I use nvidia prime
now with the proprietary drivers.

Thanks!

Dear Christopher,

After my last comment I updated the system by running apt-get update && apt-get upgrade. After that, the NVIDIA card stopped working, but was still recognized. So, I wswitched to the nouveau driver and ran purge nvidia* in order to clean install the latest nvidia driver. After that however, I had the initial problem back, not even finding the card, but the BIOS version is now 216.
output:
K52Jc.216
01/25/2011

Could you help me further, or should I file a new bug, since it's probably not the bios any more.

best
Chiel

Chiel van de Steeg, we can continue analyzing this via this report. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly shown as:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.18-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.
