Bug Description

While upgrading wine package from the wine-team ppa, winetricks upgrade is mostly always forgotten , even if sensitive fixes can be found on trunk and/or Debian archives (Jessie/Sid).

It is the case for all the 'active' ubuntu distros: Vivid/Utopic/Trusty (20140302) and even worst for Precise: 20120308
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/winetricks

The Debian archives (Jessie/Sid) are well upgraded: https://packages.debian.org/jessie/winetricks (20141009)

So please upgrade the Ubuntu archives, it's important , mainly for all users dealing with .Net installation for example

Yes, this is very true. The process for this is rather bad at the moment.

Hi,

Debian Maintainer of Winetricks here. I took over maintenance a little while back when the package was orphaned. I'm glad dino99 thinks I am keeping Jessie and Sid well updated.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help with this. I'm not quite sure what Scott means when he says the process is bad at the moment, because I don't have any experience contributing directly to Ubuntu. If it is an issue of finding time to package Winetricks, then I can help with that.

Cheers,
Joseph

I mean Ubuntu's process here. To get new winetricks it needs to be synced to Ubuntu beta (happens automatically from your package, which is good), but then manually SRU'd to existing Ubuntu releases through a bug nomination process such as this one.

Hello Scott,

for vivid, there is coming nearly a FeatureFreeze (in ~ 2 weeks) and still is possible to get package upgrade / merge from Debian. Do you have a willingness for that or shall I merge it?

Since a half of year there is no response from Scott, I'm merging winetricks.

Joseph, I'm attaching a debdiff file, then you can check which changes can go on to Debian directly.

Thanks.
