Hi it goes thru the wipe process, and then says the file ( that bleachbit
creates, does not exist), deletes nothing and gives 1 error
using 0.96 version works fine
I am using windows 7 64 Bit, if that helps. BTW I am impressed with
bleachbit and since running my PC Company Ive recommended it to all of my
customers :)

Hi Chris,
Do the new versions BleachBit 1.4 and 1.5 still take a really long time (at least 20 minutes, maybe an hour or more---depending on how much free space you have)?
Thanks, I'm glad you like it.
Chris (harrowman1442) wrote : | #4 |
it does take some time, however I am still getting the error that the
cleaning has not taken place
hence my report to you
If I use 0.96 it works fine any other version does not, which makes this
function useless :(

I believe BleachBit 1.4 and 1.5 are actually cleaning as effectively as before, but there is a harmless error message and that you are experiencing bug #1299906, which I hope to fix soon after BleachBit version 1.6.
Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Andrew
Its not a harmless error message, it tells me that it has failed the task.
Have you tried to replicate this error?

Hi Andrew
I downloaded 1.6 and still receiving the error on the drive wipe, you
mentioned on our previous correspondence that this would be fixed in
version 1.6. Could you advise please, as I am disappointed as the older
versions did not have this issue. I like your program being a PC technician
I recommend cleaning programs, as PC's or laptops collect so much unneeded
data
Yours faithfully

Hi Chris,
Last time I reproduced this problem the wiping was successful, and there was a harmless error. For the next stable release I will verify the wiping is correct while addressing the error message. I appreciate that if this is true (that the wiping is successful) it is confusing to have an error message, and if the wiping is not successful, that needs fixed too. Please allow a little time for me to work on this. Thank you
Andrew

Hello Andrew. I tested this out for you and the error message seems to be gone, however, MFT free space doesn't seem to be wiping still. I think this issue arose in 1.0 or 1.2.

ROCKNROLLKID: Thank you for checking. Please let's keep this ticket for the message '[Errno 2] No such file or directory", and please file another ticket (unless there already is one).

Hi Andrew
Ive tested it and its working like before, I am impressed you managed to
get it fixed so quick. Also the wipe free space, does it offer a good level
of security? As I am unsure of how it does the wipe, I.E zero fill or
gutman method
Hope your well

i continue to receive this free space erasure error with v. 1.7. of course, the randomly created filename changes each time i attempt to delete/erase free space. also, i see no evidence of the 'shred' feature.
thanks.

i found the link you cited four posts earlier very informative. thanks for providing it.
i am still unable to coax bleach bit into wiping the free disk space on my hard drive. as stated above, the 'No such file or directory' error message persists.
thank you.

Duane,
In BleachBit click the Help menu and then the System Information option. Then please copy it and either paste it here or email it to me directly.
