Bug Description

Binary package hint: bluez-utils

I seem to remember bluetooth working with Dapper and Edgy (memory is fuzzy on that though), however I can not connect to or from my nw8240 laptop with Feisty.

What bluetooth dongle are you using? Can you please install bluez-gnome, logout and login again and see if you can see a bluetooth icon in panel?

Hi Onkar,

I have internal bluetooth. I have installed bluez-gnome and logged
out. There is nothing new in the notification area (the keyboard goes
lower case, but I've seen that before). However:

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Bus 004 Device 002 seems new.

Alex,

If you are using internal bluetooh then you should use 'lspci' command and not 'lsusb'. Also check if you have a hardware switch to turn off bluetooth. Often there is only one switch is for both wireless and bluetooth.

There is a button above the function keys with blue LED and a wireless
logo and on it, something like this ((|)). This button optionally
toggled wireless and/or bluetooth (configurable) under Windows. While
the LED does not work in Ubuntu (or its dead, but I doubt it) I can
certainly connect and disconnect eth1 wireless with a button press.
But this does not seem to have an effect on bluetooth.

I do not seem to have any indication that bluetooth exists in Nautilus
nor the panel. I've just set the System>Preferences>Bluetooth
Preferences>Always display icon, and do see the bluetooth icon, but
that's not terribly interesting.

FYI: I've upgraded to Hardy (over Gutsy, not clean) and bluetooth continues to not work. The output of lspci is the same as above. The wireless/bluetooth button does toggle wireless, but does not seem to help bluetooth. System > Preferences > Bluetooth (Preferences) ... I've turned all four services on (Running) and checked all General settings.

Still having this problem with my internal bluetooth card on a fresh install on Karmic on a hp compaq nc6000.
laptop spec here:
I cant find any info on the actual name of the hardware on the hp site, but I can vaguely remember it being referred to as 'Bluetooth by HP' on XP. But that was a very long time ago. I'll take out the card later and have a look and see If I can get the actual name.
Anyway lspci gives nothing of value and so obviouly '$ hcitool dev' just returns the blank 'Devices: '.
