Bug Description
This is actually a feature request. Inkscape 0.91pre2 already looks amazing and I'm dying to use it in the stable version. :)
I'd just like to suggest that we implement objects in Inkscape canvas to be listed in the Layers Panel/Window because sometimes there are some ojects that can be dranw on screen and set to have NO color on fill and on stroke so this object is not visible anymore.
Of course we can always use Ctrl + A to select all objects on screen/canvas to realize we have some hidden objects on screen but what if we could implement this feature? Blender. Photoshop and other apps have it and it makes things much more simpler to edit (move objects betweeen layers) and to identify what objects are in what layer.
What do you guys say? :)
Cheers!

Proposing to link as duplicate to bug #1157024 (the new 'Objects' dialog is already in lp:inkscape/experimental, and will be merged for Inkscape 0.92) - it's not an exact match (new dialog instead of redefining the layers dialog into an object browser) though.
