Bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/feisty-backports/+bug/134717 in feisty-backports might be related. I had emacs22 from feisty-backports installed before upgrading to gutsy, but I have tried removing (and purgeing) all related emacs and auctex packages and verified that this bug still occurs when trying to install them again.

This is not a duplicate of 134717.

That bug is against feisty-backports and only discusses backporting while this is a bug in auctex in gutsy. To mark this as a duplicate you should first change the description, and also add auctex(Ubuntu) to the affected packages.

I'm coming across some similar reports in Debian, and it looks like they've released a fix. If you could, please download their auctex package from <http://packages.debian.org/sid/auctex/all/download> and let me know if this fixes the problem. If so, I will file a request to sync that package from Debian before gutsy is released.

Reinhard, from the changelogs, it looks like Debian's new version includes the Ubuntu-specific fixes that went into 11.83-6ubuntu2, so it should be safe to sync.

sorry for this late reply.

in the mean time, we have a newer version of auctex in the archives. I cannot reproduce these compilation issues with the new version. For this reason, I'm closing this bug, but anyone feel free to reopen it if you believe there is still a problem.
