Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

... [apport] firefox-bin crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall()

Firefox terminates randomly, even minutes after a simple (i.e: no flash, etc) HTML page has completed loading. I could be sitting here reading through a paragraph of text, not even touching the machine, and Firefox commits suicide. This is on a Fiesty LiveCD, but it happens on my installed system as well (also Feisty, all updates applied). Not sure what is triggering it as it seems to happen under differing circumstances (browsing digg.com, sitting on my google.com/ig homepage reading headlines, slashdot.org, gmail inbox, hackaday, etc.)

Thank you xyphur for your report,

Please, if you determine a test case, please report it here.

Also, would you please try to reproduce this problem in your harddisk install of feisty with all the updates and submit here either the crash report generated or a backtrace with debug symbols (you can follow the hints at [1]) and upload it to [2].

Finally if you have any extensions/plugins enabled, please indicate which ones.

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

H. Montoliu

I would have already sent in a backtrace from my hard drive installation,
but so far after every crash, it doesn't give me that option. In fact, it
doesn't even seem to know that Firefox crashed... until the next time I
attempt to start it and the two options to restore previous session or start
a new session come up. Only extension I have on the hard drive install is
AdBlock Plus. On the Feisty LiveCD, it's running exactly as it comes
on-disk; bone-stock.

Again, it doesn't seem to happen only when I'm doing certain things, it's
completely random... sometimes I can go an hour before having it crash,
while doing all sorts of browsing to various sites, and sometimes it won't
make it through loading my google homepage right after starting it up.

We have not received any duplicates for some time. Thus, this crash was likely due to some unique plugin extension combination or has been fixed in the meantime. Please, reopen it at any time if you have more related info.

Thanks for your contribution. Don't hesitate to submit new crashes,

H. Montoliu
