Bug Description

Openshot often refuses to start from the launcher, i.e. the launcher icon appears to be dead. Ubuntu 14.04 is running in VirtualBox under Windows 8.1.

The following fix from Kirk Schnable temporarily fixes the problem:

OpenShot version 1.4.0, Python 2.7.3, on Xubuntu 12.04, all updates are installed. ... No LADSPA plugins were found! Check your LADSPA_PATH environment variable. [Where the hell is it, and what do you check it for?]

I uninstalled and reinstalled OpenShot and Python's MLT libraries...
sudo apt-get remove openshot python-mlt3 --purge
sudo apt-get install python-mlt3 ## It is unclear whether this command should refer to python-mlt or python-mlt3
sudo apt-get install openshot
Then I got rid of the old profile settings for the user.
mv ~/.openshot/ ~/.openshot-old/

After doing the above steps I cleaned up the various cacheswith apt-get and rebooted. Everything appeared to work. The next morning Openshot reverted to having a dead launch icon.

It is clear that the openshot package contains a lot of carefully thought out and powerful features and represents a lot of very impressive work by its developers. My problem is that ALL I want to do is reduce a .avi file from my camera, UNCHANGED, to a 320 x 240 .mp4 that will play in the most common phone and desktop browsers using the most elementary and featureless HTML5 video player imaginable. This task, which should have been a no brainer and taken minutes, has been only partially successful after 2 man days of frustration.

Openshot 1.4.3 don't use ladpsa plugins but our framework MLT use them.
Before we don't have this warning but now yes with last versions of MLT. So
do just install them either your package manager either in a console.
