Bug Description

Just downloaded SikuliX-1.0.1 to Windows XP Pro v2002 SP3 desktop with dual screen. (Main screen on left as no. 1).
Machine is an Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz with 3GB RAM.

Start the IDE and try a screen capture; screen 1 goes black and screen 2 shows nothing except "Select Image" message.

I tried starting the IDE in both screens but no joy. Searched the bug list but didn't see anything related.

First time I have used Sikuli.

I know, that on Windows with some 1+ screen setups there are still problems.

use runIDE.cmd -d 3 -c
from command line to start the IDE.

you will get some debug output, that might help to identify the problem.

you might as well try the actual 1.1.0-Beta4 (sikuli.com -> nightly builds)

Hi Raiman,

Tried your first suggestion and here's the output. There will be a bit of a delay before I can try Beta4.

Joe.

If it is on screen 1, then put it on screen 0 and try again.

--- if this is not the problem:
any chance to upgrade/use Java 7?

-- in any case:
before quitting the IDE after the capture: what do the 2 images in temp file show?

The screens are numbered 1 and 2 in the Windows Properties display (which might be a problem). If I capture on the black screen the result is valid, i.e. it captures what is actually there but I can't see.

I can try upgrading to Java 7 if the company security policy lets me do it :-(

Where exactly do I get Beta4 please?

Ok, thanks for now.

Did you check in the Sikuli debug log, that Java 7 is really used at runtime?

Numbering 1 and 2 in the setup is no problem.
The monitor having the desktop should be listed in Sikuli as Screen 0, the other one as Screen 1

BTW: does capture work correctly, if you run with only 1 screen attached?

I am sorry, to fly blindly in this situation: I can only test multi monitor with Windows 8 64-Bit.
But I will check with version 1.1.0 latest next week on Windows 8 again.

Thanks for your contribution.

Hi,

Yes, Java 1.7.0_67 is in use.

Doesn't work with only 1 screen attached but I'm not surprised - it still has the dual screen video
card which is presumably still talking 2 screens.

If you can point me to the precise location (sorry, very new to this) of Beta4 I am happy to give it
a bash.

Regards,
Joe.

I have a dual screen video card in my Windows 8 machine as well, but if only one monitor is plugged in into the card, then only one monitor is available in Windows prefs and in Sikuli.

1.1.0-Beta4: http://nightly.sikuli.de

again thanks.

Hi Raimund,

Tried Beta4 - exactly the same thing happens. I tried various commands/methods but anything which requires a screen capture sends the required screen black.

I'll see if I can find any other machines to try this on - maybe there's some Windows problem (wouldn't be the first time!).

Joe.

I remember that there where problems with Java Robot (the Java feature that provides the screen capture) in combination with some video cards and their drivers.
So this might be a possible cause on your system.

Scan the net for a combination of Sikuli windows and graficscard/adapter ...

Hi Raimund,

Just tried on a different machine. It's a stand-alone machine, off the net, with a new installation of Java 7 and everything works fine so I guess it's my machine.

Looks like a very nice tool which could be very useful to us. Unfortunately I have just shown this to my manager and probably made a rod for my own back :-(

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Joe.
