Bug Description

Just wanted to point out that there are newer versions of Java from IBM available for PPC linux:

I downloaded and tested SR5a, and it works fine under Ubuntu. make-jpkg doesn't seem to know how to handle the tarball, but I suppose that's a bug for the java-package package.

BTW: the reason I went looking for a new version is that new versions of azureus seem to be crashing in the medibuntu version of the ibm-j2sdk1.5 package.

Sorry, this link is for the sdk... The jre is supported by java-package >= 0.30.

BTW, that patch is no help because the latest IBM JDK and JRE are in archives named ibm-java2-sdk-5.0-5.1-linux-ppc.tgz and ibm-java2-jre-5.0-5.1-linux-ppc.tgz:

BTW, thats with the latest java-package on gutsy.

Also, I know that's not really relevant to this bug, just wanted to point it out.

SR6 of Java5 has been posted by IBM at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/linux/download.html

A ppc version of Java6 has been released, too. I created a new bug #176283 about that which may be considered a dupe of this report.
