What version of Pidgin are you using? This should have been fixed in 2.4.3.

Using Ubunutu 9.10 trying to sign in to QQ with Empathy I needed to change the client to 2008. I suspect this bug has something to do with the client version as well.

I am likewise having the same problem, Ubuntu 9.10. Initially, using the default settings, I got the same message that seba described at #6 above. After changing to client version QQ2008, I found a different response, it just times out and says,

<username>@qq.com disconnected
Server closed the connection

The linked Pidgin bug seems to be closed too.

Should I open a new Pidgin bug? Or is this a Ubuntu 9.10 issue? Or does anyone know of an already existing bug?

even if you change the protocol to QQ2008 after a few times you can't login again because Tencent blocks your account.
