Bug Description

Often the alarm comes only in very short bursts ( like 1-2 seconds sound out of ten)

After I unlocked the phone, the alarm goes as expected.

Thanks for reporting the bug. It is very helpful to see alarm bug reports come in while trying to get it ready for daily consumption. It is a bug in the platform. Known issue, but not sure if someone is working on a fix for it. I will look into this.

I have seen this. I need to plug the device in when it happens next. I have 4 devices all ringing around me, so sometimes hard to identify which one it was quickly enough :)

Marco can you check if you have this issue only when the phone is plugged in?

I only have this issue when the phone is NOT charging.

(At least we have a workaround, now. )

Hey Marco, alan pope noticed that these short bursts happen when the CPU usage is at 100%. and the culprit seems to be the system settings app. There is already a bug about this in the system settings app that you can find at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings/+bug/1337200. I believe that is the cause of the short audio burst when the alarm goes of. With that I am closing this bug and request you to track the other bug for further updates.

I experienced this issue yesterday and I hadn't opened the system settings app. On talking to charles (indicator datetime developer) he thinks that this may be due to the phone constantly trying to suspend the phone which results in a race between the alarm playing event and the suspend event. So this bug is valid, but we are also tracking it at https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-datetime/+bug/1320877. So I am going to mark this as a duplicate rather than invalid.
