Bug Description

After installing Ubuntu 14.04 on my Asus Q501LA Notebook the touchpad does not work. After doing some further investigation I found that the OS doesn't even recognize that the touchpad even exists. I was running Windows 8.1 before installing Ubuntu 14.04 and the touchpad worked just fine. I've attached more information to the bug report. My logitech mouse works when I attach it too.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.15 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Did this issue occur in a previous version of Ubuntu, or is this a new
issue? -----> This issue occurred with the latest stable release and
updated version of Ubuntu 14.04. It looks like this has been an issue in
previous version of Ubuntu from looking at other bug reports.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? ----->
unfortunately, I had to return the laptop and exchange for a new one
because I couldn't wait. I will not be able to test.
