Bug Description

I occasionally get a double click as a result of a single mouse click. I am using my mouse left handed btw and have reversed the buttons. The problems started when I switched to the proprietary NVIDIA drivers (nvidia-304, proprietary tested).

James Lownie, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
1) Would using nouveau instead of the nvidia proprietary drivers provide a WORKAROUND?
2) Would this be reproducible if you changed the mouse model/manufacturer?
3) If you adjusted the version of the drivers as noted in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia would this change anything?

Hi Christopher,

I tried a different mouse, and that resolved the problem. Then I plugged in the original mouse, and now that one is working properly too. I will investigate this further and see if I can find out more.

Incidentally, I installed CentOS on this computer, and I noticed that it had the same problem with the mouse clicks. I might also try using the same mouse with Windows and see what happens.

Hi - I can confirm this behavior as well - as far as I'm aware I have not switched to Nvidia drivers. My mouse is a Logitech Anyware MX - and the exact behavior is that is very often double-clicks when I click. Please let me know if you'd like any logging or diagnostic info. Cheers,
Eugen.

I think my problem was actually a hardware issue. I opened the mouse up (which is a Razer Copperhead) and sprayed some WD40 on to the switches, and after that the problem has gone away. So Eugen I would recommend you try that, as well as any other users having the same problem. It was pretty easy to do.

Hey James - first thing I'll do is use the mouse on a Win 7 OS just to see if I see the problem. In the meantime, I did try to collect some additional info as suggested - here are the results:

Cheers,
